Who We Are

The Fish Store was founded in August of 1970 by Frank Lull and his friends. In 2009, he sold the store to Dan—an employee since 1996 and manager of the Bellevue location from 2000-2002—before his death in 2012. In 2020, The Fish Store Celebrated its 50th anniversary, making it the oldest continuously operating pet store in Washington State.

Many of our guests have fond memories of the original Roosevelt store, and some still remember stores in Bellevue and Tacoma as well. We moved to our current location on Lake City Way in 2014 and look forward to many more years here.

Our present staff represents over 100 years combined fish-, coral-, and aquatic plant-keeping experience. We have suppliers as close as our own neighborhood and as far as Sri Lanka, The Caribbean, and Europe. Overall, we have 43 freshwater systems for plants and animals totaling over 2800 gallons of water, plus 1300 gallons of saltwater in 18 different systems. We also showcase a number of display tanks throughout the shop to show off a few of the possibilities for home aquariums, each made from the same equipment and materials we sell here.

The Fish Store is proud to be a part of the Lake City community alongside Build Lake City Together. We help out local schools by donating to fundraisers, assisting with salmon breeding programs, and providing materials for science classes. We’ve also supplied animals and equipment to the University of Washington Biology Department, Woodland Park Zoo, and the Seattle Aquarium.
